Using the commentary system will disable the enemy AI while the track plays. The conversations range from 10 seconds to a minute and cover topics such as how they developed the specific features that are prominent in the immediate area, obstacles they ran into and more. When activated, commentary icons will appear at various areas around the level which the player can use to listen to audio commentary from the Valve developers. In addition to a visual showcase, Lost Coast also acts as a platform for the demonstration of the developer commentary system. Lost Coast is available to all owners of Half-Life 2 for free. It has been redeveloped as a playable technology demo, showcasing Source's HDR lighting features that were developed in late 2005. Half-Life 2: Lost Coast is an additional level for Half-Life 2 that was originally slated to be a part of the Highway 17 chapter of the game, but was subsequently dropped.
